Music is the shortest way to my heart …
This blog may not have anything directly to do with my life as a roller and travel. And yet …
From an early age, …
I was already musically interested at an early age, despite the fact that my parents could not find any reference to it. The discovery came when my uncle had a music store and I was allowed to ‘pluck’ around on organs … A few years later, I was allowed to promote these mighty instruments together with him on open shop days, I got into the provincial newspaper a few times and I sometimes played in a wedding mass.
Studies and some house moves then determined time and space (an organ takes up quite a bit of space) and so ended my active musical period.
However, once playing in a mega large symphonic orchestra … It remains a dream. When I saw Ennio Morricone in the Sportpaleis of Antwerp in 2019, it tickled my fancy once again! 🙂
Dancing …
I have never been able to dance for very long. Before my wedding we took dancing lessons, because we absolutely wanted a Viennese Waltz as an opener. Despite the difference in height between us, we finally managed to dance a reasonable waltz that evening. But after that, never again 🙂 . My physical endurance was already very low then and it has not improved with age. Meanwhile, I ‘dance’ in my own way.
Dance shows on TV, figure ice skating … they remain favorites to watch and now without ‘heartache’ 🙂 .
… becomes wobbling …
Wobble on my chair … until the muscles ache the next day 😀 .
Festivals, concerts, performances … I always have fun for days because I have not been able to sit still for hours. A day Tomorrowland, Werchter … A real work-out is nothing compared to that … 😉
Anything with a solid rhythm and a good bass makes me wobble. It is impossible for me to sit still.
Seeing Faithless live at Werchter, for example …
Or this one …
A very different style that I used to play in my car with the speakers turned all the way up… Goa!
For me, the link with travelling is that I have a very diverse taste in music. So in Vienna I saw my first opera ‘Die Zauberflöte’ and in London a first musical ‘The Lion King’. The decor, the clothes, the music… Each in its genre is simply ‘wow’.
Years ago, I saw the largest church organ to date in the St Bavo church in Haarlem. I was lucky that they were rehearsing just at that moment. I was moved to tears there … So beautiful …
I also love ‘music in the crowd’! Carnival in Santa Cruz remains on my wish list, and maybe one day I will ‘roll’ in a parade like the Berlin Pride!
It is sometimes a search for accessibility, especially because as a ‘roller’ you usually have to get tickets via a different route. But I have succeeded every time so far! 🙂
And … who knows where the music will take me one day … 😉
